The best dosa in Bangalore!

The Dosa, is THE dish from South India, and more particularly from Karnataka. It’s a sort of crepe, stuffed with a mix of potatoes, onions and spices most of the time. We find them in every “darshinis”, the south-indian fast-food serving all the range of local inexpensive dishes and where we eat most of time standing.
There are all kind of dosas, but the ones we really love are crusty outside and incredibly soft inside. In that category, there is one restaurant in the town-center which is unbeatable. It’s the kind of institution well-known by the locals that has been serving almost only dosas since 1943… Vidyarthi Bhavan, in Gandhinagar has its own rules/rites, followed and enjoyed by its loyal customers. You wait gently outside or standing between the tables. Once seated, the only question to answer is the number of dosas you want to order (you can also add a local filter-coffee or a vada to occupy your waiting time). Then, we all wait together. Because dosas are being served in batches, all-together, waiters are bringing them in piles and it’s a beautiful sight!
Once served, it’ll be appreciated to wait for the “chutney”, served by the ladle, you’ll dip in every bite of dosa. The rest doesn’t need any comment and will be done only with the help of your right hand of course…
Oddly, this place isn’t opened for lunch-time because traditionally, dosa is a breakfast meal or a snack!
