New photo project : “Cyclists of Bangalore”
This post is also available in: French
With a friend, Venkat, we’re cycling to our office once in a while even if it’s quite difficult to appreciate those 13 kms with the insane traffic, the bad roads and the pollution. Still, this little exercise has allowed us to see that we’re not the only fools to cycle in this crazy city. Of course, nothing has been planned here to motivate people to cycle even if that could be one of the best solution to halt the unbridled development of traffic throughout the city. I heard that they have well-respected bicycle lanes in Pune, so why not in Bangalore?
Anyway, beyond those urban planning problems, we think that cyclists are also great photographic subjects (I’m particularly fond of the “roadster” cycles, like the old Raleigh kind of bikes) and meeting them is the insurance of great anecdotes. So we’ve decided to start shooting cyclists of Bangalore (with our smartphones) and chat a bit with them about why they cycle or anything else (a good way to remember that, actually, not everyone is speaking English).
We’re sharing those pictures on a Facebook page and on an Instagram account, “Cyclists of Bangalore“, so feel free to follow us, like, comment and spread the word!
