A 2BHK? what’s that? 2 Bedrooms, 1 Hall, 1 Kitchen. That’s quite the standard deal in Bangalore. I’m not even sure it’s possible to find smaller actually, it’s like eveyone live with family or roommates here.
To find the desired nest, it’s better here to hire a brooker who will try his best to get you visit as many flats as he can to get his one month rent commission, once the flat is found. Classified ads websites are not so used here, but still some like Sulekha are emerging.
So, I’ve tested both solutions and I finally found my new flat thanks to a brooker. He (or one his « boys ») helped me visit a dozen of flats in 4 days, so it went pretty fast. It all starts with some motorcycle tours without helmet with one the proud member of « Golden Nest » and it’s ending by bargaining the rent rate with the landlord in a corridor. I won’t give you details about the flats where we wait for the keys which are actually opened, the ones we enter and annoy families living there by mistake or the « complex » visited with the pool (being under construction or on maintenance), gym room and… party hall!
The flat I finally obtained is the best area of Bangalore (as far as I know), Indiranagar, a neighborhood with many restaurants, bars and shops (even if we’re in India, so it’s not that obvious on the first glance). Our 2 BHK is at the 4th floor with a really rare nice view on all Bangalore thanks to an attached balcony to enjoy the sweet weather here. The building is loyal to the Indian standards, a ground floor reserved for parking, 4 to 5 floors high with a undetermined architectural style mixing greco-romain features with a pretty simple shape.
Concerning our direct neighborhood, Appa Reddy Palya (it takes time to remember your address here), it’s full of lively small lanes, with small traditional shops with unexpected trades: iron(ing)man, tailors, two-wheelers hole in wall garage, rice merchant, alive chickens sellers… So, we really feel that we’re living in India here, but it’s still pretty quiet by night. Apart when there’s a Hindu festival like this w-e when they played drums and danced in the street all nignt long!
We should be fine here (when Johanne will be there) and we’ll just need our friends to stay continuously in our guest room!
