Ambassador Private Limited

If you haven’t understood yet, we have a crush for Indian vintage vehicles… It started with the Bajaj Chetak (Indian Vespa), went on logically with the Bullet Royal Enfield. This time, we moved to the 4 wheels model, with an other legend from Indian roads, not to say THE legend, the well named « Ambassador », or fondly nicknamed the « Ambi ».
This car, based on an English Oxford Morris from the end of the 40s was the first car to be made in India and is still being manufactured at this time next to Calcutta! It was even the almost only car on Indian roads just 20 – 30 years back. Today, it has logically lost some ground to the newly designed cars, but its unique charm remains.
So we thought it could be nice to have one to travel with our family and friends and the opportunity to buy one came with Antoine (a friend having one) leaving… After a quick chat over a dosa, we decided with two other friends, Matthieu and Arthur to buy it, the four of us!
Until now, our unique « travel » with the Ambi brought us to Nandi Hills, 60 kms away from Bangalore. But the car passed the test even if we had to climb several hairpin turns to reach the summit and some used brakes (already changed) to come down. Nandi Hills, by the way, worth the trip. Maybe we were lucky but we enjoyed a clear view all around and a crowd of tourists limited. Nandi Hills also offers some nice trails all around so you can have a circle treck there along with some scary hordes of monkeys all the way.
Our camera being in service on this week-end, thanks to Saffi, Arthur and Matthieu for the pictures.
(and thanks for giving us the pleasure to reach the 100 likes on our Ambassador picture published on our Cheese-Naan Facebook page!)
